General Physical Therapy Intake sessions:

Your first visit is an important step in understanding your symptoms and creating a personalized treatment plan. During the intake sessions, here are things to expect:

1. Talk About Your Health and Goals

We’ll start with a conversation about your medical history, current concerns, daily activities, and what you hope to achieve with therapy. This helps us understand your unique needs and guide your treatment.

2. Perform a Movement and Strength Assessment

I will look at how you move, check your posture, and assess strength, flexibility, balance, and any areas of pain or limitation. These tests are gentle and designed to help me identify the root cause of your symptoms.

3. Review Findings and Create a Plan

Before you leave, I will explain what I found, answer any questions, and work with you to develop a clear, customized plan for your care. We will also talk about my recommended packages for a number of follow-up sessions.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Intake Sessions:

If you are coming in for pelvic floor therapy, your intake session will include everything above, plus a more focused assessment of your pelvic health. This may involve:

1. Detailed Pelvic Health History

We’ll discuss symptoms such as bladder or bowel changes, pelvic pain, pregnancy or postpartum experiences, sexual function, or any previous surgeries. This information guides a safe and tailored approach.

2. External Assessment

I will evaluate posture, breathing patterns, core and hip strength, and how your body supports the pelvic floor during movement. This helps identify contributing factors outside the pelvic area.

3. Internal Muscle Exam (Optional and Always With Consent)

If appropriate, I may recommend a gentle internal examination—vaginal or rectal—to evaluate pelvic floor muscle strength, coordination, tension, and areas of discomfort.
This exam is always optional, can be stopped at any time, and is only performed with your clear consent.

4. Personalized Treatment Plan

After the evaluation, I will explain my findings and create a treatment plan tailored to your goals—whether it’s reducing pain, improving bladder or bowel control, supporting postpartum recovery, or enhancing overall pelvic wellness.

General Physical Therapy Follow-up Sessions:

After your initial evaluation, your follow-up visits focus on helping you make steady progress toward your goals. Each session is personalized and may include:

1. Checking In on Your Symptoms and Progress

I will ask how you’ve been feeling, review any changes since the last session, and adjust your plan as needed.

2. Hands-On Treatment

Depending on your condition, this may include gentle manual therapy, joint or soft-tissue techniques, stretching, or other hands-on approaches to reduce pain and improve mobility.

3. Guided Exercises

You’ll work through targeted exercises to build strength, improve movement, and support long-term healing. I will ensure you’re performing each exercise correctly and safely.

4. Education and Home Program Review

We’ll reinforce proper movement habits and update your home exercise program to keep you progressing between visits.

Follow-up Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Sessions:

Pelvic floor PT follow-ups build on your intake session and focus on improving pelvic function, comfort, and confidence. These sessions may include:

1. Symptom Review and Goal Check-In

We’ll discuss changes in bladder or bowel habits, pelvic pain, posture, or daily activities. I will tailor the session based on how you're doing.

2. External or Internal Techniques (Always With Consent)

I may use external or, if appropriate, internal techniques to address pelvic floor muscle tension, coordination, or strength.
Internal work is always optional, explained beforehand, and performed only with your consent.

3. Targeted Pelvic Floor and Core Exercises

Your session may include breathing and abdominal-pressure-management training, pelvic floor strengthening or relaxation exercises, hip and core work, or functional movements related to your lifestyle.

4. Education for Daily Life

I’ll provide guidance on posture, lifting, bladder and bowel habits, sexual health considerations, and strategies to support your progress at home.
