🌿 Join us Sunday, November 15, from 2:30–4:30 PM for a tender, body-centered workshop exploring Scarwork, gender-affirming care, and the healing that can unfold when we care for ourselves and one another. 🤗✨
🫶 Led by Jeff Bramhall of Just Breathe Manual Therapy, this hands-on workshop is designed for trans* and gender-expansive folks who have undergone gender-affirming top surgery, as well as the people who support and care for them.
💗 Surgery takes a physical, mental, and emotional toll on the body, and healing continues long after the initial recovery period. Scars may hold areas of pain, numbness, altered sensation, or restriction, while access to ongoing, affirming aftercare can be limited.
🌱 Scarwork offers a gentle, intuitive approach to supporting healing. Rather than treating scar tissue as something to erase or fix, Scarwork invites us to meet it with curiosity, patience, and care. Through calm, attentive touch, this practice aims to support the integration of scar tissue with the surrounding tissues, potentially improving mobility, comfort, and connection with the body. 🫀
🤲 Together, we’ll explore:
An introduction to scar tissue and the background and principles of Scarwork
A demonstration of how Scarwork is practiced
Introductory, hands-on techniques using gentle, listening touch
Time to practice these techniques with a peer or partner through two mini-sessions
🪷 No prior experience with hands-on bodywork is necessary, only humility, curiosity, and a desire to be of service. This participatory workshop will intentionally cultivate a space grounded in consent, respect, and compassion, where each attendee can both receive and practice care with a peer.
🩷 Our goal is to build skills for sharing Scarwork as a free, community-based care practice, empowering participants to offer support to others in their communities and guide caregivers in providing gentle, attentive touch. This workshop is an introduction to community care, not professional training or preparation to offer Scarwork as a paid service.
🌿 Space is limited, and preference will be given to those with surgical scars to work with. At its heart, this gathering is about honoring our bodies’ wisdom, nurturing connection, and cultivating a culture of care in which healing doesn't have to happen alone. 🌱✨
